Assurance Services for Management Purposes

Whilst the threshold for audit of commercial accounts has been increased to £6.5 million, to ensure that the focus is on large enterprises, our experience is that audit continues to be of substantial benefit to the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector. An audit is an independent assessment of all aspects of business, fully documented and comprehensive. It includes a report to members of the strengths and weaknesses encountered in the course of the audit which can form the basis of management action. It is rare for us not to be able to highlight significant aspects of client operations. The benefit of an independent perspective, formed from long experience and from a variety of angles is in many ways the most valuable contribution we can make for the benefit of our clients.

Auditing Charities

With an annual threshold of £500,000 income we find many charities and large churches require an audit. We can carry out the necessary work in an unfussy manner, to time, and at a realistic cost. For many charities below this threshold, either the requirements of their charity deed or the preferences of their trustees make an audit a central part of their control procedures. We provide a comprehensive report to trustees, including discussion of future trends, funding arrangements and personal matters. We undertake the filing of statutory accounts and the Charity Commission Annual Return on our clients’ behalf.

Statutory audit

We are regulated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to perform statutory audits. This involves review and monitoring under practice assurance to ensure that we conform to all the requirements of the profession.

Specialist Audits

We undertake audits under the Solicitors Accounts Rules and report our findings to the Solicitors Regulation Authority as well as other specialist organizations regulatd by the Financial Services Authority and similar bodies.
